Rubio Monocoat is best known for oiling solid wood, but did you know that you can oil other materials with Rubio Monocoat too?
Are you looking for new furniture, but are not sure what material you want? Why not choose MDF this time? The applications are endless, for example kitchen cabinets, doors, stair railings, baseboards, etc. There are plenty of options. Plus, composite panels are very popular right now.
What is MDF?
MDF stands for "Medium-Density Fibreboard" and is a panel made of dried wood fibres that have been pressed into a panel with synthetic resin adhesives. Examples of high quality MDF brands are Valchromat and Finsa.
Is solid wood a little too expensive for your liking and don’t like wood with knots? MDF is an
economical alternative, very easy to machine and easy to mill and saw into any shape, because it doesn’t splinter thanks to its very fine fibre structure.
Just like with any other material, there are a few disadvantages linked to MDF. If MDF cracks, it is more difficult to repair than solid wood. Direct exposure to water is also a risk, because it may cause MDF to swell.
Oiling MDF with Rubio Monocoat
Rubio Monocoat oil can do more than just oil solid wood; MDF panels are also among the applications! Would you like to find out how you oil MDF?

Clean and Maintain
Did you treat your MDF with Rubio Monocoat, but now you want to know how to clean and maintain it? Check out these tips:
-Cleaning
Is your MDF dirty and do you want to clean it? You can clean the treated surfaces with Rubio Monocoat Universal Soap. Rubio Monocoat Universal Soap is a maintenance soap for cleaning oiled surfaces. The soap thoroughly removes all dirt and grease and keeps its natural, matt look. We recommend waiting for 5 days before the first cleaning with soap and water.
The tools used can be cleaned with Rubio Monocoat Cleaner (except for disposable items, sponge, cloth and pad). Rubio Monocoat Cleaner may not be used on the MDF material itself.
-Maintenance – renovation
Is the surface of your MDF starting to lose its silky look? You can use Rubio Monocoat Refresh Eco to freshen it up. Rubio Monocoat Refresh Eco is a ready-to-use spray for refreshing and touching up all wooden surfaces protected with oil.
But don’t wait till the colour of your MDF starts to fade. Use Rubio Monocoat Refresh Eco in time. Rubio Monocoat Refresh Eco is also recommended for touching up mini scratches.
Do you have a high-traffic area, or do you need to fix a colour somewhere? It is then best to use the original product you used, in the original colour.
Are you completely convinced? Then what are you waiting for!
