Restoring a piano with Rubio Monocoat? Sounds like music to our ears!
Musikhaus Ortel is a small company that specialises in restoring pianos. For this purpose they often use the products of Rubio Monocoat. Their newest project is once again a gem: the music lovers had the chance to restore a 100-year-old piano from the south of Germany.
The restoration
A piano of 100 years old has had to endure a lot already. A restoration from time to time is therefore definitely advisable. Holger Becker from Musikhaus Ortel in Friedberg is specialised in such restorations and uses an artisanal restoration process. His last project was called “Tabler” and is a piano that dates from the 1920s.
The piano is made from cherry wood and oak veneer. The musical instrument was first completely restored technically, including new strings, after which it was sanded and then protected with
Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C Pure. That way the piano is ready to be played again. Furthermore, Holger wanted a more modern look for the piano. That’s why he decided to keep some of the old French polish in the deeper pores.
