James Ensor House restored using Rubio Monocoat

In Ostend (Belgium), 2020 was dominated by the artist James Ensor. Almost immediately after his death in 1949, his house was turned into a museum, but it wasn’t until 2020 that it was restored to the full glory of its original state. By integrating the adjoining building into the museum, the city has been able to create a fully-fledged visitor centre. Parket De Pauw was responsible for restoring the wooden floors and stairs, and they had no hesitation in choosing Rubio Monocoat for the job.

Preserves the natural look and feel
In order to restore the James Ensor House to its former glory, a decision was taken at the beginning of the restoration to preserve the natural appearance of the wood. It was for this very reason that Parket de Pauw chose to use Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C. They chose the colour Pure for the traditional oak floors and stairs since it preserves the classic look of the wood. For the larch wooden floorboards a 1:1 ratio of the colour Mist 5% and Smoke 5% were used. The result of this mixture was a natural look and feel that came closest to that of the original wooden flooring.

Keeping the flooring in optimal condition
During the coronavirus pandemic, it is also important to try and keep 'high traffic zones' corona-proof. At Rubio Monocoat, we have found a solution for this, too. Rubio Monocoat Disinfectant Spray can be used to sanitise all wooden surfaces that have been treated with Rubio Monocoat oil. This colourless and quick-drying spray does not affect the protection or the treated surface, meaning there is no risk of colour changes.

The ideal partner for the project market
As an installer of parquet flooring, Parket De Pauw works almost exclusively with Rubio Monocoat products. For them, ease of maintenance and an extensive range of colours are two very decisive reasons for choosing them. Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C can be applied to almost any type of wood, so when Parket de Pauw needed to treat five different wooden surfaces (oak in an offset pattern, floorboards, end-grain flooring; larch floorboards and oak stairs) there was no problem with using one single product!

We can’t wait to pay a visit to this beautiful museum!
